24 February 2015

Three thousand students from more than 80 schools are hoping to prove they have what it takes to grow the heaviest sunflower for 2015.

Today, students will plant their sunflowers to compete in the 2015 University of Queensland Sunflower Competition.

Their aim is to grow the largest and heaviest sunflowers and beat the 4.45 kilogram record.

Now in its 16th year, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Sunflower Competition promotes the science behind agronomy and horticulture.

Approximately 300 students and teachers will attend the official weigh in day on 19 May at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Gatton campus.

Students in remote and regional areas who are unable to attend the weigh-in day can enter the Communicating Science category for a chance to win prizes.
