The origins of China’s power will be discussed at a on Chinese culture at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Confucius Institute on Friday.

World-renowned sinologist Professor Colin Mackerras will deliver the lecture, Western Images and attitudes of the recent rise of The People's Republic of China.

Professor Mackerras will draw on his 40 years of experience to discuss the Western world’s view of China’s economic growth, its strategic and military rise and the increase of its global influence.

It aims to explain Western images of contemporary China and of China’s rise.

Professor Mackerras was co-recipient of the Gold Citation for the Media Peace Prize in 1981, and holds a Foundation Cross of Merit Award (1993), a Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Australia-China Cultural Relations (1999) and a Centenary Medal of Australia (2003).

He is an expert on Australia-China relations and Inaugural Director of Confucius Institute at Griffith University.
